I am of the belief that gender and sexuality are complete social constructs, I believe that everyone is a bit fruity. I identify as bi. But I constantly question my identity. Having labels helps people find their place, but sometimes it feels like Im alone in a sea of labels.
What's your take?
i think labels make sense for some people and don't make sense for others and that is completely alright. labels are only set in place for one to be able to recognise people who might be feeling the same way as they are and with that can foster a sense of community and belonging which might be exactly what the person seeking out a label is looking for. that being said- you do you.
Honestly, i think labels are optional. The community is specifically made for those who do not fit pre-existing narratives - it would be completely redundant if we enforce labels within the community as well. Labels can be great to find your own community, or to gain better understanding of yourself, but they're not mandatory at all:) So, if you are questioning your identity, that perfectly fine. There's no pressure to chisel away pieces of yourself just so you can fit perfectly under one label. That's why there's so many of them. It's extremely unfortunate that we can't just break down those constructs immediately, because society would be, in every way, better and less soul-sucking as a whole.
